River Levels Rising in Kampong Chhnang

Kampong Chhnang: The director of the Kampong Chhnang Provincial Department of Water Resources and Meteorology, Dok Bunthon, says heavy rain has caused the water level at the Phsar Krom Hydrological Station on the Tonle Sap River to rise. Authorities says the water level is at 7.75 metres, up 10 centimetres in just 24 hours. The Department of Water Resources and Meteorology is advising everyone to be on high alert.

Dok Bunthon says seven districts in the province have seen particularly heavy rain, with Kampong Tralach being the most affected. He is appealing to everyone living along the Tonle Sap River in the province to extremely vigilant, particularly those with young children. Increased water levels don’t only bring a danger of flooding, but also of poisonous snakes and other water creatures. He says residents should also prepare for possible evacuation while the level of the river continues to be monitored.
